My Mother is a Fish…

… is not the name of my newest acquisition, but it’s what I think about every time I read the title.

But: ¡ATENCIÓN! I’m excited to share with you my very first acquisition, which I bought back in August and have been impatiently sitting on ever since.

A generational story of identity, family, and all the things one can find at the end of a fishing line, WHAT IF A FISH is an Own Voices contemporary middle grade that takes place in Cartagena, Colombia. When Eddie’s older half-brother’s trip to visit him in Minnesota is cancelled, Eddie – who’s never left his hometown – is sent to spend the summer in Colombia instead!

I’m so happy to be working with Anika Fajardo on her middle grade debut. Make sure to add this to your GoodReads lists, once it’s available, and keep an eye on the shelves summer 2020! Follow Anika on Twitter: @anikawriter and, while you’re at it, make sure you preorder her memoir, MAGICAL REALISM FOR NON-BELIEVERS, to pub with the University of Minnesota Press April 2019.

A special shout out to Thao Le at the Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency for bringing us together!
